TEMPE, Ariz. - Western Michigan softball has yet to get its offense going at the 2011 Kajikawa Classic, falling to Utah and Oregon State, 6-0 and 8-0 in six innings, respectively, on day two of the tournament.
During the morning game, the Broncos didn't pick up a hit until the bottom of the sixth inning. Courtney Rousseau drew a pinch hit walk with two outs. She advanced to second when Jennifer Tschetter singled to left center. Both were stranded when Kayla Houston struck out to end the threat.
Houston pitched all seven innings against the Utes, striking out a career high 10 batters in the loss. Utah scored its six runs by posting two in the top of the first, top of the fourth and top of the seventh.
Western Michigan came back in the afternoon to face Oregon State. The Beavers' Paige Hall threw a perfect game with OSU defeating the Broncos, 8-0, in six innings. Oregon State put two on the board in both the first and second innings. The Beavers brought home a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and capped the scoring with two more in the top of the sixth.
The Broncos will look to get things going on day three opening play against Cal-State Northridge at 11 a.m. ET followed by a nightcap against Northwestern at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
