WMU vs. BSU Post-Game Notes

Pregame

 

 

  • WMU leads the all-time series 20-17, including an 11-7 mark at home. 

  • WMU is seeking back-to-back wins against Ball State for the first time since 1999 and 2000. 

  • WMU will honor its 2011 Hall of Fame Class at halftime. The class consists of Rich Bacon (wrestling), Stephanie Henderson (softball), Jack Jones (athletic training), Tim Lester (football), Jim Oliphant (track and field) and Jill Stamison (track and field). 

  • Jordan White is eight yards shy of becoming only the third Bronco ever to record back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. 

  • White needs nine receptions to pass Jamarko Simmons for most in school history. 

  • White needs seven receptions to pass Ryne Robinson (Miami) for eighth in MAC history, and 33 receiving yards to pass Freddie Barnes for tenth in MAC history. 

  • John Potter carries a streak of 99 consecutive PATs made into today's game. Potter needs four PATs to pass Brad Selent for first in school history. 

  • Alex Carder needs four passing TDs to pass Brad Tayles for third in school history. 

  • Game captains for WMU are Robert Arnheim and Freddie Bishop

  • Game captains for Ball State are Briggs Orsbon, Adam Morris, Sean Baker and Kreg Hunter. 

  • WMU will observe a moment of silence for US Army Capt. Drew Russell, who was killed in the Kandahar region of Afghanistan. 

 

 

First Quarter

 

  • Ball State won the opening toss and deferred to the second half. 

  • With a 41-yard TD reception, White goes over 1,000 yards receiving for the season. White is the third receiver in school history to accomplish the feat in back-to-back seasons. That reception also moves White into tenth place in career receiving yards in MAC history, passing Freddie Barnes. 

  • Potter with his 100th consecutive made PAT. 

  • Jahwan Edwards 8-yard TD run is his eighth TD of the season. 

  • That TD makes Ball State just the third opponent that has scored on the Broncos in the first quarter this season. 

 

 

Second Quarter

 

  • Barrington Scott with his first TD of the season for the Cardinals. 

  • Career-long 45-yard kick return by Justin Currie. It is his second career kick return. 

  • Ansel Ponder ties a career-high with his second rushing attempt. 

  • Carder's TD pass to Arnheim is the 48th of Carder's career, and the second TD reception of the season for Arnheim. 

  • Arnheim's 61-yard TD pass to White is the first TD pass of Arnheim's career. This is the eighth time White has had two-TDs in a game in his career. 

  • The catch puts White over 100-yards receiving for the 17th time in his career, tying Greg Jennings for the school record. The reception also tied White with Ryne Robinson (Miami) for eighth in MAC history in career receptions.  

  • Potter's 102nd consecutive made PAT gives Potter 157 career PAT makes, tying him with Brad Selent for first in school history. 

  • Second career interception for S Johnnie Simon

  • Tevin Drake's 4-yard TD rush is his third rushing TD of the season. 

  • Potter's 103rd consecutive PAT make gives him the career record for PATs made at WMU, with 158. 

  • The last two scoring drives for WMU have totaled a combined 1:31. 

  • Josh Schaffer with a new career-high in receptions. 

  • Career-long 59-yard reception for Chleb Ravenell. It is the longest completion of the season by Carder. 

  • Drake with his second career two TD game. Drake now has four rushing TDs this season. 

  • Potter with his 104th consecutive PAT make. 

  • Ball State QB Keith Wenning's 14-yard TD pass to Orsbon is the 11th TD pass of the season for Wenning. 

  • Interception by Cardinals S Joshua Howard is his third of the season. 

  • Wenning's TD pass to Orsbon is his 12th TD pass of the season. The Cardinals now have 14 points off two Bronco turnovers. 

  • The two teams have combined for 49 points in the second quarter. 

  • The 28 points scored by WMU in the second quarter are the highest total in a single quarter by the Broncos this season. The 35 first half points are the most by WMU in a half this season. 

  • WMU is 4-2 when leading at the half this season.

 

 

Third Quarter

 

  • Interception by Cardinals LB Aaron Morris is his first of the season. This is the first time Carder has thrown multiple interceptions in a game this season.

  • Ravenell with his third-career 100-plus yard receiving game. 

  • This is the second time this season WMU has had multiple receivers with over 100-yards receiving. 

  • Drake with a new career-high in rushing attempts. 

  • Third rushing TD of the season for Carder. 

  • Potter now with 105 consecutive PATs made. 

  • WMU has now scored over 40 points in every MAC home game this season. 

  • Donald Celiscar with a new career-high in tackles. 

  • First-career interception for Demetrius Pettway

  • White's 8th reception goes for six yards ties him with Simmons for the program record (260). 

  • WMU is 3-0 when leading after three quarters.

 

 

Fourth Quarter

 

  • Ravenell with a new career-high in receiving yards. 

  • Cardinals CB Jeffery Garrett with his first interception of the season. 

  • Antoin Scriven with career-highs in rushing attempts and yards. 

  • Rontavious Atkins and Aaron Winchester with new career-highs in tackles. 

  • Wenning with his third TD pass of the day, giving him 13 on the season. Jack Tomlinson with his first TD catch of the season. 

  • With a 6-yard reception, White now has 261 career receptions, passing Jamarko Simmons for first in program history. The reception also moves him into seventh place in MAC history. 

  • Ravenell ties a career-high with nine receptions. 

  • Arnheim becomes the third Bronco receiver with over 100 receiving yards today. This is Arnheim's fourth career 100-yard receiving effort. 

  • WMU with three receivers over 100-yards receiving for the second time this season. This is the first time in school history that feat has been accomplished twice in the same season. 

  • Third career game of 400-plus passing yards for Carder. 

  • Potter's 40-yard field goal makes him 6-10 from 40-plus yards this season. 

 

 

Postgame

 

  • White becomes the all-time receptions leader with 261 career receptions, passing Jamarko Simmons. White is also now seventh in MAC history in receptions, and tenth in MAC history in receiving yards.

  • Ravenell with a career-high 157 yards receiving to go along with a career-high tying nine receptions. 

  • White, Arnheim and Ravenell each with over 100-yards receiving in the same game for the second time this season. This is the first time in school history WMU has had three receivers over 100-yards in the same game twice in a season. 

  • Carder with his third career 400-yard passing day. 

  • Potter extends his consecutive PATs made streak to 105. 

  • Career-high 16 rushing attempts for Drake.

  • Scriven with career-highs in rushing attempts (7) and rushing yards (18). 

  • WMU earns back-to-back wins against Ball State for the first time since 1999 and 2000. 

  • Career-highs in tackles for Winchester (10), Atkins (7), and Celiscar (5).
