KALAMAZOO, Mich. - After Wednesday's doubleheader against Oakland, Western Michigan will embark on a 12-game road trip that spans from April 9 through April 25. The first series of this trip will be to Ohio University for a doubleheader on April 9. The Broncos will then travel to Akron, Ohio for a two-game series against the Zips this Saturday and Sunday.
MID WEEK SHOWDOWN • Western Michigan will two of its final four non-conference games remaining on the schedule on Wednesday when the Broncos host Oakland in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
The Broncos hold an 18-5 advantage over the Golden Grizzlies in the all-time series. Last season's meeting between the two teams was canceled due to rain. The last time the two teams met was on April 2, 2008 with WMU coming out on top, 9-1 (F/5) and 5-0.
DOUBLE TROUBLE • In 2009, Western Michigan turned 16 double plays in 47 games. The Broncos have turned three double plays through 20 games so far in 2010. The last time WMU turned two came in a game against California on Feb. 13.
LONG BALL DROUGHT • The Broncos have hit seven home runs as a team so far in 2010. Leading the way for the Broncos is Lexi Jager with three, followed by Gracie Barstad with two. Michelle Bendewald and Courtney Rousseau have also recorded home runs this season. WMU has been missing the long ball as of late. The Broncos' last home run came on March 18 against Notre Dame.
FAMILIAR FOES • The Broncos faced Ohio and Akron a combined seven times last season, including in the MAC Tournament. WMU tallied a record of 5-2 in those games and outscored the Bobcats and Zips 24-7 in those games.
ON DECK • WMU will break up its next week with a non-conference doubleheader at IPFW on April 14 before heading to Northwest Ohio to take on Bowling Green in a doubleheader on April 16 and Toledo on April 17-18.
