WMU Softball Splits With Akron, Losing 4-2 on Sunday

WMU vs. Akron Game Stats

AKRON, Ohio - Western Michigan managed just four hits in its 4-2 loss to Akron on Sunday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.  Gracie Barstad hit her third double of the season in the sixth inning to drive home one of WMU's two runs and Kayla Houston hit her second double of the season to drive in the Broncos' final run in the seventh.

Trailing by four runs after Akron scored a run in the second, two more in the third and its final tally in the fifth, Sarah Thomas earned a one-out base on balls and scored on from first base on Barstad's double.  Barstad was thrown out by the center fielder when she tried to stretch her double into a triple.

In the top of the seventh Meghan Thomas led off with a single to right center.  Courtney Burnett replaced her on the base path and scored on Houston's two-bagger.

Western Michigan left four base runners stranded on Sunday afternoon.  Courtney Rousseau followed up her two-hit performance on Saturday with another hit on Sunday.

The Broncos will face IPFW in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, April 14.  Western Michigan resumes its Mid-American Conference schedule next weekend with travel trips to Bowling Green on Friday, April 16 and Toledo on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18.
