WMU vs. Rutgers Game Stats
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Western Michigan finished the Under Armour Invitational with a record of 3-2 after falling to Rutgers, 3-2, on Sunday morning. Meghan Thomas went 2-for-2 in the loss and was one of three Broncos to register an RBI against the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers scored all the runs its needed in the bottom of the third inning, posting five on the scoreboard. The Scarlet Knights tallied a pair of runs on two singles, two walks and a fielder's choice.
The Broncos mounted a comeback, scoring a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Lexi Jager drove in WMU's first run on a ground out after Kayla Houston and Jenn Tschetter drew walks sandwiched around Thomas' double. Gracie Barstad led off the fifth by reaching on an error and scored on Houston's double. Thomas drove in the second run of the inning with a single, bringin her sister Sarah Thomas home.
Western Michigan stranded 10 base runners throughout the day and finished the game 2-for-17 with runners on base, leaving at least two base runners stranded on three different occasions. The only inning WMU did not leave a runner on base was the top of the seventh when the Broncos went down in order to end the game.
WMU will have 11 days until the team opens its home season with a date against Notre Dame on March 18. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
