MUNCIE, Ind.- The No. 10 seeded Western Michigan women's basketball team fell in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, 67-43, to No. 7 Ball State Saturday.
Sophomore Miame Giden was the only Bronco to reach double digits with 13 points. Ebony Cleary had eight points and eight rebounds. Western Michigan shot just 27.1 percent for the game and was held to its third lowest offensive total of the season.
A three-pointer by Giden put WMU down one, 14-13, at the 7:39 mark as Western Michigan hung with Ball State through the first 13 and a half minutes. Ball State outscored WMU, 13-2, from there to close out the half. The Broncos didn't make a basket in the final 5:02 of the first half.
Despite their gritty defense, the Broncos' offensive woes followed them into the second half, where the team connected on just 26.9 percent of its shots.
Ball State's Audrey McDonald opened the second half with a pair of back-to-back three's. She scored 11 of her 13 points in the final 20 minutes. Ty'Ronda Benning also dropped in 13 points for the Cardinals while Shanee' Jackson had 10. BSU shot 50 percent for the game.
It was the final game for WMU seniors Molly Dwyer, Jenny Loney and Sara Vest. Dwyer will leave Western Michigan ranked fifth in career three pointers with 119 and Vest exists fifth in career blocks with 86. Dwyer finished with two three's for six points and Vest scored five.
