WMU vs. Florida Gulf Coast Game Stats
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Despite outing hitting Florida Gulf Coast and coming back from two runs down to tie the game in the seventh and force extra innings, Western Michigan fell on the road on a walk-off double. Five different Broncos collected hits in the WMU's final tune up before the upcoming Under Armour Invitational hosted by South Florida in Clearwater, Fla.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth, Western Michigan mounted its comeback. Lexi Jager led off the sixth with an infield single. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on a throwing error. Jager had scored the Broncos' first run on a passed ball in the top of the first.
Sarah Thomas led off the seventh with a double and scored three batters later when Jenn Tschetter ripped a single to left center field to even the score at three runs apiece. WMU had a runner reach second base in each of the next two innings but stranded the base runner to give FGCU its chance in the bottom of the ninth.
Diana Patterson allowed a one-out walk in the inning and the game was ended two batters later on a double down the left field line.
Also collecting hits for Western Michigan on Thursday were Gracie Barstad, a single to right center in the eighth, and Michelle Bendewald, a base hit back up the middle in the top of the first.
Both teams had opportunities to add more runs to the scoreboard. WMU stranded five runners on the base paths, while Florida Gulf Coast stranded six.
