KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Northern Illinois was just one beat better than Western Michigan the entire afternoon, topping the Broncos, 194.300 to 192.450, Monday at University Arena. Despite the loss, WMU posted its second best team total of the year and several Broncos had career highs.
The Huskies outscored Western Michigan in all four events, and placed the top individual in three of four. Senior Andrea Perini had the Bronco's lone first-place finish, as she tied a career high with a 9.850 on the vault.
Sophomore Kristine Garbarino also had a career day, as she posted personal bests on the bars, beam and in the all-around. She placed second in all three. She got the day started with 9.650 on the vault, then stuck a career-high 9.775 on the bars. Garbarino followed with another career high of 9.800 on the beam and finished out the afternoon with a 9.775 on the floor. Totaling a 39.000 on the floor, its was the first time she had scored in the 39's.
Erin Doucey was the only other Bronco to crack the top three, as she and Perini tied for third on the uneven bars. Both scoring a 9.725, it was a personal best for Doucey. She also had top score ever on the beam, sticking a 9.775 to place fifth.
Monday's meet was the senior send off for Perini and classmates Casey McGranahan and Keesha Olsen. The Broncos will conclude the regular season Sunday, March 15, traveling to No. 24 Kent State.
