KENT, Ohio- The Western Michigan gymnastics team finished out the regular season with its highest score of the year, but it was not enough to overcome No. 22 Kent State. The Golden Flashes concluded 2009 undefeated with the 196.750 to 193.025 win over the Broncos.
The Brown & Gold scored 48.500 on the vault, bars and floor, setting season highs in both the vault and bars, and went 47.525 on the balance beam.
Individually, Andrea Perini scored a 9.850 on the vault for the second meet in a row. Tying a career high, it tied her for first in the event with Kent State's Lydia Barrett.
Kristine Garbarino set career high is three out of four events, as well as in the all-around. She was the Broncos' top finisher all three events she posted personal bests, placing sixth on the bars with a 9.775, fifth on the beam sticking a 9.800 and closed out with a 9.875 on the floor. She totaled an all-around score of 39.025, bettering her score of 39.000 last meet, to place second.
Casey McGranahan also shattered her all-around career best, going 38.825, and set a new high on the bars with a 9.725, taking seventh.
Two other Broncos had personals bests as Erin Doucey went 9.700 on the vault and Cepeda Carter scored a 9.725 on the beam.
KSU started out with a team score of 49.00 on vault and increased its team score on each of the remaining three events. The Flashes scored a 49.200 on bars, a 49.225 on beam and a 49.325 on floor.
Western Michigan will travel to Muncie, Ind., for the Mid-American Championships hosted by Ball State Saturday, March 21.
