COLUMBIA, Mo.- For the first time this season, the Bronco gymnastics went over 192.000, scoring a season-best 192.875 and taking fourth at the 29th annual Cat Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri.
The No. 13 Tigers won the meet with a 195.275, ahead of No. 23 Michigan State (194.750), Cal State Fullerton (193.275) and Western Michigan.
Andrea Perini had WMU's highest individual finish, tying a career high and placing third on the floor with a 9.825. Also recording a top-10 finish on the uneven bars with a 9.750, she would go on to total an all-around score of 38.775, good enough for third. It was a season high in the all-around for the senior from Sterling Heights, Mich. Mizzou's Sarah Shire took the all-around title with a 39.575.
Sophomore Kristine Garbarino finished in the top 15 in three of four events. Her best showing was on the floor, posting a 9.800 for seventh. She took 14th on both the vault (9.650) and bars (9.725).
Liz Prouty also put together a solid showing on the floor, tying Garbarino in seventh with a season-high 9.800.
Erin Doucey had a pair of top 15 placings and tied two career highs. She led WMU on the beam with a 9.725, placing seventh and stuck a 9.700 on the bars for 15th.
Western Michigan freshmen Cepeda Carter and Kacie Holop were also impressive on the balance beam, both hitting 9.675s, tying for 10th. It was a career high for Holop.
After spending the past five weeks on the road, Western Michigan returns home to Cal-Berkley Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m. and then welcomes Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois Monday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
