Opening Statement from TTU's Watson Brown: “Any time you come and do this, its apples and oranges. But I think we got a lot out of it. I think we get battle testing, and we get toughness that helps us prepare for conference play. We're so, so young, but I think it's good for our kids to do this kind of thing. If you get out healthy, that's a big deal.”
Londen Fryar: “It's just everybody working hard and doing their job. Everybody's just doing their assignments, they had good running backs and wide receivers, but we just hung with them. Everybody's flying to the ball, but there are always things to correct. But as of right now you've got to be happy because everyone is doing their job.”
Tim Hiller on performance: “We just wanted to start fast. That's something we haven't been great at the past few seasons. Aaron made a tremendous play taking the dump off and taking it down to the one (yard line). And we finished, and that got us going."
Jamarko Simmons on statistics: “Coach came in a told us we had too many penalties. The main goal for the second half was to stop the penalties. Nothing would have changed, we would have just executed."
On preparation: “Our preparation was pretty good this week, it wasn't the best at times, but I thought we did really well this week just bearing down and just coming out and executing from the first play."
WMU Head Coach Bill Cubit, opening statement: “We'll start with the negatives, way too many penalties. But offensively, that's about as in sync as we've had it. I thought we played fast and there were a lot of good plays. We got the ball to play makers. He (Tim Hiller) is the catalyst for this whole thing right now, the way he's running the offense. The offense is pretty good right now; we got the game breakers out there.
"I really liked what I see out there defensively. Our big thing was to get off the field on third down. I think we accomplished that, in the second half they had something like 71 yards. We got a lot of kids to play. There were a lot of guys out there that got in the game and it's great because it's a home game. Guys like Dennis Reedy and DeShazor and guys that won't have much opportunity to play got to get in there and they got out there and play, and we're really happy about that because that's what it's all about.
“It seems like every time you emphasize something with us, we're getting better at it. And I think our football team improved, except for the penalties.”
