Box Score
ROCHESTER, Mich.- The Broncos never led in the game and Oakland pounded out 25 hits as Western Michigan (23-18-1) fell to the Grizzlies, 19-5.
Western Michigan answered a first inning Grizzlie score in the top of the second, but the Broncos wouldn't hang with Oakland any further. The Grizzlies took the lead back with two runs in the third and went on to score 16 more runs over four innings. WMU wouldn't score again until the sixth, tallying a run in each of its last four at bats.
The Brown & Gold produced eight hits by eight different Broncos. Making use of the non-conference game, 13 different players had at least one at bat. Derek Mosher, Zach Gentile, Kyle Galbraith, Neal Miller and Matthew Abro each collected an RBI. Miller homered in his only trip to the plate in the top of the eighth, his fourth home run of the season. Mosher, Joe Sheets and Chris Lewis all hit doubles.
Oakland's Justin Wilson went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Dan Ryan, Justin Murdock, and Ryan Waldhart and Kevin Annett also recorded three hits.
WMU starter Gus Jacobson (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits in 3.1 innings. The bullpen didn't have much luck slowing the Grizzlies down either as Brian Schutzbach, Michael Klepper, Eric Heckaman and Drew Mahan all took their turns on the mound.
Jeff Gorecki (1-0) picked up the victory for Oakland, scattering two hits and allowing just one run in five innings of work.
Western Michigan is back in action tomorrow, traveling to Oldsmobile Park in Lansing to face Michigan State. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. The Broncos face Central Michigan on the road this weekend in a three-game Mid-American Conference series.
