CAMP DIRECTOR RANDY FORD
Randy
Ford enters his fourth season as head coach at Western Michigan
University in 2008. A native of Morenci, Mich., and a 1976 Morenci High
School graduate, Ford led the Broncos to the Mid-American Conference
Tournament in two of the past three seasons.
Before arriving
at WMU, Ford spent 16 years at Penn State University as an assistant
baseball coach and as a member of the faculty in the Kinesiology
Department. During his tenure at PSU, the Nittany Lions made postseason
play in seven seasons. In 1996, the Nittany Lions captured the Big Ten
Championship and in 2000, the team won the NCAA Regional, advancing to
Super Regional play.
Ford has been involved with 60 players who
have gone on to play professional baseball - two of which were pitchers
taken in the first round.
A three-year letterwinner at Western
Michigan (1977-79), Ford compiled a career record of 17-4 and a 2.91
ERA. In 1979, he was named First Team All-MAC and earned All-District
recognition as a junior. Ford was an 11th-round pick by the Toronto
Blue Jays in 1979.
FACILITIES
The $25 million
Donald J. Seeyle Athletic Center will be the site for the 2008
Western Michigan Bronco summer baseball camps. The indoor facility
includes six full size batting cages, a full infield and portable
mounds for pitchers. The playing area stretches 80x60-yards and is
covered with AstroPlay synthetic turf.
CAMP STAFF
The
camp staff will be comprised of college coaches, high school coaches
and current and former Bronco baseball student-athletes. All staff
members are effective teachers of the game of baseball. A member of the
athletic training staff will also be on site for every camp.
AGE GROUPS FOR CAMPS
To ensure safety, improvement and overall enjoyment at camp, players will be broken into smaller groups according to age.
CAMPERS EQUIPMENT
All
campers should bring a glove, bat, batting gloves, comfortable practice
clothing for 62-degree temperature and tennis or turf shoes (no outdoor
