WMU Softball Embarks on Nine-Game Road Trip Beginning at Toledo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan softball will not play a game at Fran Ebert Field again until May when Ball State comes to Kalamazoo.  Between now and then, the Broncos will play nine games on the road, eight of which will be in-conference, beginning with a doubleheader this Friday at Toledo followed by a two-game set at Bowling Green.

CENTURY MARK ? With the Broncos' game one victory over Buffalo on April 13, Kathy Leitke reached the 100-win mark in her Mid-American Conference career. She is just two wins shy of achieving 500 career victories.

MULTI-TALENTED ? Junior shortstop Mandi Sayres now has eight multi-hit games this season. She collected two hits in four out of five games this past week.

HITTING FOR AVERAGE ? Four Broncos hit .400 or better during their five games last week. Sayres and Molly Mroczek each hit .500 or better, with averages of .529 and .500, respectively. Amanda McBride and Becky Bartosz each hit .417 (5-for-12). Bartosz had all of her hits in the doubleheader against Buffalo, going 5-for-6.

TOPS ? A few Broncos find their names at or near the top of the statistics in MAC games. Kyla Sullivan has the lowest ERA in conference action at 1.17, while Sayres his second in batting average at .481. She leads the MAC in runs scored per game (1.25), while McBride is tied for fifth in triples in conference games (1).

SHH ? Western Michigan hitters have quietly put together impressive hit streaks throughout the season. McBride and Samantha Vargocko have each had hit streaks that reached four games this season and Sayres and Mroczek currently have seven and five-game hit streaks, respectively.

ON DECK ? Western Michigan will continue its nine-game road trip with trips to Akron and Ohio on April 25-27. The Broncos will face the Zips in a twinbill on Friday and then travel to Athens, Ohio, for a two-game set with the Bobcats on Saturday and Sunday.
