BOX SCORE
BRADENTON, Fla.- The Western Michigan Baseball team (7-4-1) battled IPFW to a 1-1, 12-inning tie called on account of darkness Friday.
Billy Morrison started on the mound for the Broncos and gave up one run in the fifth inning on a pair of singles. Morrison gave up eight scattered singles before being relieved by Joe Sheets in the seventh. Sheets allowed no hits before being relieved in final frame of the evening by Derek Mosher.
The Broncos garnered 13 hits to 10 for IPFW. Bronco first baseman Matthew Abro collected three Bronco hits. Abro opened the top of the second with a double off the right field wall and scored on a Kevan Hess sacrifice fly to right field.
It was a well played defensive game, the Broncos committing one error and IPFW none.
Western Michigan had a golden opportunity to score in the eighth inning with the bases loaded, but two runners were thrown out at the plate.
Alluding to the defensive play, head coach Randy Ford remarked, "IPFW played great defense today. They played errorless baseball. We had 13 hits and four walks for a total of 17 base runners and we could not generate more than one run. Our hitters need to generate runs in every game."
