Softball Opens Five-Game Homestand with No. 6 Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan softball will host five games in six days, beginning with No. 6 Michigan on April 1.  The Broncos will play their postponed doubleheader with Oakland on April 2 before resuming the Mid-American Conference schedule with a pair against Northern Illinois on April 5-6.

SPLITSVILLE ? Western Michigan earned a split in its Mid-American Conference opening series at Central Michigan, winning the first game, 3-1, before falling, 2-1, in the night cap. WMU's scheduled two-game series with Eastern Michigan on March 29-30 was cancelled due to poor field conditions.

LOOK WHO'S COMING TO TOWN ? The University of Michigan softball team is returning to Fran Ebert Field for the first time since 2006. The Wolverines are ranked in No. 6 in the latest poll and boast a 29-3 record. UofM has been ranked in the top 15 each time WMU has faced its intrastate rival, dating back to March 4, 2006 when the Broncos defeated the then No. 7 ranked Wolverines, 2-1 at the Sunshine State Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla.

WMU vs. OAKLAND, TAKE TWO ? The twinbill between the Broncos and Bears originally scheduled for last week will take place on Wednesday. It will mark the third-to-last time this season WMU will face a non-conference opponent.

ROAD DOGS ? Northern Illinois comes to Fran Ebert Field this weekend for a two-game set on Saturday and Sunday. The Huskies are coming off a two-game sweep at the hands of Central Michigan and are 5-15 on the season. NIU is yet to play a home game this season, going 2-13 on the road and 3-2 at neutral sites. Northern Illinois will get its first home game on Tuesday against Northwestern before traveling to Kalamazoo.

ON DECK ? After-five straight games at home, WMU will travel to Michigan State for a showdown with the Spartans on April 9. WMU turns right back around for a four-game homestand the following weekend with a twinbill against Kent State on April 11 and a two-game set against Buffalo on April 12-13.
