Game Quotes WMU vs. EMU

POST-GAME QUOTES

Eastern Michigan Head Coach Jeff Genyk

On defensive backfield

“I thought we played pretty good with the exception of two ball, one on Arrington Hicks and one on Kevin Long.  WMU lined up in run heavy formations and ran one man routes which we really didn't need to stay over top on. But other than that we played pretty well defensive back wise.”

Expectations coming into the game

“I actually field like, given the fact that this was the first week we had everyone in practice, we would perform better.  But we didn't execute.  Any time you get the ball inside the five yard line three times and you come up with three points, then you're not going to win many games.”

Missed opportunities

“We really felt like, after watching WMU's first eight games, we had some opportunities to cause some fumbles.  I think our team rallied around that particular aspect, and what we ended up doing was causing those three fumbles, two of them took points off the board.  But the one in the third quarter was critical that we turned it into seven points, not three.”

Western Michigan Head Coach Bill Cubit

Opening Statement

“It started out pretty good then hit a little lull and we just had too many minute turnovers and were too loose, and I'm going to take the blame for that one fumble, we should have just run it in.  With Juan Nunez going out, that changed big for us because of what he can do for us.  We don't have too many guys that can do what he can do.  Robert Arnheim went in and made a nice play.  I think Branden (West) ran pretty well and the offensive line did well.”

On the defense

“I think defensively we called the game more aggressively and I think the kids enjoyed that a little more.  E.J's (Biggers) pick was huge at that point there, it makes me happy.  I'm just happy that we're 7-2, and we'll worry about the stuff tomorrow that we have to go and fix.”

On 1988 team

“I think the '88 team came in and had a great time in there and voiced a lot of enthusiasm.  Coach Molde, we all congratulated him on getting into the Hall of Fame, the locker room was pretty nice, I really enjoyed it.”

On being 7-2

“I think the seventh win anymore is huge.  They will take a seven win team over a 6-6 team.  I like where we are headed, right now we're 5-1 in the MAC and have to hope something happens to one of the teams, but we're still in it and you've got to be happy with that.”
