PRE-GAME NOTES

  • Game captains: E.J. Biggers and honorary game captain Kevin Smith (Middlefield Elementary, Battle Creek).
  • Eastern won the coin toss, and elected to receive.
  • EMU starting left guard Andy Fretz is the brother of WMU walk-on offensive lineman, Kevin Fretz.
  • Drew Nowak, Weston Peiffer, and Mitch Zajac all make their first career starts.

1ST QUARTER

  • Juan Nunez hauled in a season long 45-yard touchdown reception at the 10:35 mark in the quarter giving the Broncos the lead, 7-0.  Nunez's previous season long was 41-yards against Central Michigan.
  • The scoring drive was WMU's 11th time they reached the end zone in two minutes or less, and 15th time in five plays or less.

2nd QUARTER

  • Hiller's 7-yard touchdown strike to Schneider Julien marks the 20th time he has thrown for multiple touchdowns in a game.
  • Julien has recorded a touchdown reception in the last three games.
  • Hiller's nine-yard completion to Jamarko Simmons put him over the 7,000 yards passing for his career.  Hiller becomes only the third Bronco to exceed the 7,000 yard mark.  Tim Lester is the all-time leading passer with 11,299 yards.
  • Backup quarterback, Robert Arnheim, hauled in a career long ten-yard reception late in the half.  It was Arnheim's second reception of his career.

3rd QUARTER

?         Brandon West goes over the 100-yard mark for the fourth time this season and the ninth time in his career.

?         Strong safety Mario Armstrong recorded the first pass break up of his career late in the quarter.

?         WMU's three lost fumbles ties a season high in turnovers, which has happened twice this year, against both Ohio and Buffalo.

4th QUARTER

?         Simmons' 50-yard reception marks the longest reception this season for the senior. His 128

?         West's one-yard touchdown rush is his tenth total touchdown of the season, which is a team best.

?         West carried the ball a season high 29 times today.  He finished with 166 yards rushing.

?         E.J. Biggers grabbed his first interception this season at the 7:56 mark, stopping a promising Eagles drive.

?         Hiller goes over the 300-yard mark passing for the eleventh time of his career.  Only Tim Lester has more 300-yard passing games at WMU with 16.

?         Branden Ledbetter grabbed his first reception of the game with just two minutes remaining, a 34-yard touchdown reception to put the Broncos up, 31-10. The touchdown reception was his sixth this season, a feat that he's accomplished three straight years.

?         Boston McCornell recorded his first interception this season with his heels on his own goal line on fourth down.
