KALAMAZOO, Mich. - For the third game in a row, Western Michigan has been involved in a 1-0 game.  For the second game in a row, Ohio has lost a game during the home team's final at bat thanks to Sarah Thomas' game-winning RBI single to right field that scored Amanda Heckaman from second base on Saturday at Fran Ebert Field.

Heckaman led off the inning with a four-pitch base on balls.  Junior Becky Bartosz did her job by sacrificing Heckaman to second base with a bunt.  Thomas came to the plate for her first at bat of the game.  She had entered the game defensively at third base in the top of the sixth inning. 

The freshman swun at the first pitch she saw.  She sent the ball into right field and sent Heckaman around third towards home.  The Bobcats' Kelly Rodriguez fielded the ball and threw home but her throw, caught by Marian Davis was too high.  When Davis attempted the tag, Heckaman had already slid underneath for the winning tally.

Western Michigan (18-18, 10-7 MAC) was out hit by Ohio (21-26, 8-9 MAC), 8-3, but it is the one in the scoring column that made the difference.

Kyla Sullivan improved to 13-10 on the year in the circle, working the complete game.  She scattered those eight hits, while striking out one batter and walking no one.  Sullivan was the first Bronco to record a hit with a single to right center field in bottom of the third.

WMU's only of hit came in the sixth when shortstop Mandi Sayres recorded a two-out infield single to the shortstop.

Western Michigan and Ohio will take the field on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Broncos' home season finale.  Prior to the game, the Brown & Gold will pay tribute to its six-member senior class.
