WMU Softball Falls to #6 Arizona State, 6-2

Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Becky Bartosz provided the offense on a two-run home run in a 6-2 loss to #6 Arizona State at the Kajikawa Classic on Saturday night.  The Broncos head into the final day of play with a 2-2 record and a date with Syracuse.

ASU opened up the offense with a run in the first but it was the Sun Devils' five-run second inning that was the deciding factor.  The Broncos entered the bottom half of the inning behind by six runs.  Jenna Stuppy opened the frame with a single and she was followed by Bartosz's shot to center field.

Arizona State ended the game with 10 hits, while Western Michigan managed only three base hits.  Kristi Strange slapped her first double of the season during the night's contest.  Strange led the nation in doubles per game (0.48) a year ago and set the WMU and Mid-American Conference record for doubles in a seasons with 23.

The Broncos will complete their drip to the Valley of the Sun with a showdown against Syracuse from the Big East.  It will be the Brown & Gold's last action until traveling to Clearwater, Fla., to take part in the adidas Tournament hosted by the University of South Florida.
