MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. ? The Western Michigan (7-8) women's basketball team fell to Central Michigan (9-5) in its Mid-American Conference opener on Wednesday night, 91-78. Senior guard Carrie Moore scored a game-high 38 points in the loss.

The Broncos fell behind early, and headed into the half trailing 42-30, forcing a game of catch-up the remainder of the evening. Unfortunately, each time WMU was able to piece together a run, Central Michigan was there with an answer.

Moore and Tiera DeLaHoussaye led the second-half Bronco effort, scoring all but 10 of the Bronco's 48 second-half points. Moore netted 28 of her game-high 38 points in the latter period, shooting 5-for-8 from three-point range. It was the second-best single-game point total of her career, and tied for third best all-time at WMU.

DeLaHoussaye ended the game with 16 points, six rebounds and five steals. Lindsey Brown also scored in double-digits, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season. Moore also added six boards.

Senior, 6-2, forward Ann Skufca paced the Chippewa attack with a career-high 23 points, while recording six blocks. Four other players scored double figures for Central Michigan.

It was the first win for Central Michigan over WMU in the last 12 tries and the first for Chippewa head coach Eileen Kleinfelter.

Western Michigan will look to even its season and MAC record on Jan. 6, traveling to Muncie, Ind., for a 4 p.m. contest with Ball State.
