TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Western Michigan softball avenged an earlier loss to Maryland, winning 4-3 in the consolation game of the Sunshine State Tournament at Florida State.  Katie Niemi went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the win.

Krysten Shumaker (5-1) shined again in the circle, throwing six innings and allowing just two earned runs on three hits.  Kyla Sullivan (1) shout down the Terrapins in the bottom of the seventh for her first save of the season.  WMU (8-5) opened the scoring with a run in the second when Tricia VanDerSlik dougled to left to score Corey Andrzejewski who pinch ran for Lauren Fuller.  Fuller singled to left field earlier in the inning.

The Terrapins (7-8) answered in the bottom of the third but the Broncos put two more runs on the board in the top of the fifth.  Niemi singled to plate a pair of runs and give Western Michigan a 3-1 lead.

Maryland tied the game at three with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.  WMU put itself on top to stay in the top of the seventh.  Kristi Strange brought home the decisive run when she drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Mandi Sayres, who had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.

Western Michigan returns from its southern swing and is off until March 21 when the Broncos host Loyola-Chicago at Ebert Field.  The Sunshine State Tournament will announce its All-Tournament Team on March 6.
