RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico- The Western Michigan University women's basketball team fell to Louisville 73-50 in its last game of the Caribbean Classic on Tuesday afternoon in Mexico.
The Broncos fall to 3-6 on the season while Louisville improves to 7-2.
Junior Lindsey Brown managed a double-double after scoring a game-high 24 points while pulling down 10 boards. Classmate Carrie Moore added 13 points on the day.
Louisville jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead in the opening minutes of the ball game before Brown's jumper at the 16:14 mark sparked a 13-0 run for the Broncos to take a 13-11 lead with 13:20 left in the half. Unfortunately that would be the last time the Broncos would have the lead as the Cardinals continued playing strong eventually building a 12-point lead (30-18) with 4:37 left. WMU trailed Louisville at the half 32-24.
The Broncos came out on fire in the second half scoring eight straight points to tie the ball game 32-32 with 17:45 left to play. Louisville would score a basket at the other end to take back the lead but WMU's Brown would tie the ball game again at 34-34 after a jumper at the 16:38 mark.
Louisville built a nine-point lead (51-42) with 11:42 left. The Cardinals would go on to win the game (73-50).
WMU extends its four-game road trip when it travels to Missouri on Dec. 29. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
