David Groves joined the Bronco coaching staff in May 2014, and assists in all facets of the program, including development, training and game preparation.
Highly respected and well known in the Kalamazoo soccer community, Groves also currently serves as the head girls varsity coach at Plainwell High School. Groves additionally led the Kalamazoo Central boys program from 2011-13 and is heavily involved with the Kalamazoo Kingdom club programs.
After moving back to his hometown of Kalamazoo in the summer of 2011 from Huntington Beach, Calif., Groves took up his first high school head coaching position at Kalamazoo Central. He lead the boys program to its highest win total in over a decade in 2011 and again in 2013. For three years in a row, the Maroon Giants made the conference playoffs and this past fall, the team finished runner-up in the league and conference tournament for the first time since 2001. He held a 38-24-3 record while coaching at Kalamazoo Central, stepping down from the position to pursue the opportunity at WMU.
Groves recently completed his second season as the girls head coach at Plainwell High School. In his first season, the team finished the season with a 16-3-2 record, winning conference and district championships and making a state quarterfinals appearance. Groves was named district coach of the year and honorable mention for Kalamazoo Gazette coach of the year.
In addition to coaching high school soccer, Groves is also the Director of School Programs at Gryphon Place and a Premier Coach at Kingdom Soccer Club. He is a USSF National D licensed coach and has completed both his master and bachelor degrees at Western Michigan University.
