Kevin Brandy joins the Bronco women's basketball staff as the Director of Operations for the 2011-12 season. Brandy comes to Western Michigan after serving as the Vice President and Director of Girls Basketball at the Midwest Basketball Academy in Mishawaka, Ind.
Brandy’s responsibilities at Western Michigan will include film exchange, video breakdown, helping plan team travel and manager supervision, while also assisting in other areas of the program.
In addition to serving as the Vice President and Director of Girls Basketball at the Midwest Basketball Academy, Brandy was appointed as head coach for 2010-11, where he led his team to three state titles, the most ever in program history. Brandy helped young women understand the commitment of hard work, as well as winning on and off the court. This type of mentorship led to scholarship opportunities for future student-athletes at the collegiate level.
A former student-athlete himself, Brandy played basketball at Bethel College for two seasons before his career was cut short due to a knee injury. He graduated from Bethel with a liberal arts degree, concentrating in Spanish, education and math, in 2010. He will be pursuing a master’s degree in coaching performance at Western Michigan.
In addition to his experience with the Midwest Basketball Academy, Brandy was an assistant coach at New Prairie High School on the men’s side from 2007-10, helping that team double its win total from the previous season two out of the three years. As a youth, Brandy played on the same AAU team (SYF based out of Gary, Ind.) as Luke Harengody, Gary Patterson, Tyrone Appleton and Jerome Vann.
Brandy, and his wife, Amanda, reside in Three Rivers, Mich., with their two children, Kasen and Knixley.
