Brian Bauer has been with the athletic training staff at Western Michigan since 2002. He currently serves as an Associate Athletic Director and Director of Medical Services. He is responsible for the coordination of care for all of the WMU student-athletes and the supervision of the athletic training staff. He also oversees the strength & conditioning department, mental health services and nutrition services for the athletic department.
Bauer attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind., where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 1999. He received his master’s degree from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., in 2001, where he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Lakers from 1999-2001.
Bauer was the medical coordinator and host for the 2010 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four, which was held in Detroit, Mich., and has also coordinated and hosted the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Midwest Regional four times in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Prior to arriving at WMU, Bauer was an assistant at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio, for a year.
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., he and his wife, Rebecca, reside in Portage, Mich, with their son, Landon, and daughter, Brynley.
