Former Cleveland State softball stand out Michele Penney joined the WMU staff as a volunteer assistant in 2008. Penney was a three-time All-Horizon League honoree and was Academic All-Horizon League three-straight seasons.

She hit .297 with seven home runs and 47 RBI during her senior campaign and started every game in the outfield in 2007. She ended her career ranked second in school history in RBI (99), third in both home runs (16) and doubles (33) , fourth in both hits (166) and runs scored (94) and 10th in batting average (.301).

A native of Ravenna, Ohio, Penney was a Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Great Lakes Region second team choice in 2006 and represented the Vikings at the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. She was also a CSU Athletic Academic Excellence Award winner during her career.
