Jeff Kaiser
Baseball, 1979-82
Inducted 1998
Southgate, Michigan
  • Compiled a four-year pitching record of 25-4 and still holds the Bronco career victory mark along with ranking sixth for strikeouts (165) and seventh for innings pitched (197 1/3)
  • First-team All Mid-American Conference in 1980-81 and second-team in 1982 plus second-team all-region in 1980 after 10-1 season. Was an Academic All-American that year and a third-team selection in 1981-82.
  • Pitched 12 professional seasons after being selected in the tenth round of the 1982 draft by the Oakland A’s.
  • Saw action over seven separate major league seasons, appearing with the A’s, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets. Picked for the AAA All-Star team in 1992 while performing for the Toledo Mudhens.
  • Following retirement in 1994, he became part-owner and pitching instructor at the Down River Baseball Center in Riverview. In his first three years, there he helped develop five pitchers who signed professional contracts and a dozen who received college scholarships.

  • Four-year member of WMU field hockey team
  • Allowed less than one goal per game (0.93) for the 1976 Bronco team that went 11-3-2
  • Member of the first-ever gymnastics team at Western Michigan
  • Member of the USA Field Hockey Team from 1979-82
  • Won three national championships as coach at Old Dominion

Ann Kasdorf

  • Ranks third on all-time Western women’s basketball point list (1,406) and is first for free throw percentage (.822). Also among top six for field goals (571), free throws (264) and assists (229).
  • Had 41-11 pitching record in softball with 21 shutout and 198 strikeouts.
  • Played on one basketball and two softball teams that won state AIAW championships.
  • Pitched one year with Buffalo of Women’s International Professional Softball League. Was assistant coach at Indiana when Hoosiers finished second in College World Series and also spent two years as an assistant at WMU,
  • Center manager for United Parcel Services in Findley, Ohio.

Shelly Klare

    • Double figure scorer all four season – career average 13.6 ppg
    • Graduated second for points (1,459) and field goals (642), fourth for field goal percentage (.457), free throw percentage (.716) and assists (272)
    • As of 2015, ranks sixth all-time for career scoring, fifth for field goals, 10th in assists 
    • Averaged 11.9 ppg during 1985 MAC Tournament Championship season
    • Shot 6-for-11 for 12 points against No. 1 Texas in the NCAA Tournament
    • Second leading scorer on the 1983-84 team as a freshman behind Hall of Famer Vicky Musky
    • MVP of the 1985-86 WMU Team after averaging 16.8 ppg
    • Senior women's scholar-athlete in 1987
    • 1984 All-Region Academic Team 

Brian Keane

  • Three-time outdoor All-American in the javelin (1992, 1993, 1995)
  • Competed at the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials
  • Captured three Mid-American Conference javelin titles (1991, 1992, 1993)
  • Crowned Penn Relays javelin champion in 1993
  • WMU and MAC record holder in the javelin (254’-10”) set in 1993
  • 1992 MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Year

Bob Kent
Men’s Swimming, 1963-65
Inducted 1995
Grand Haven, Michigan
  • Won Mid-American Conference one and three-meter diving titles in 1964 and also placed in both events in 1962 and 1963.
  • Became swimming coach at Kalamazoo College in 1969 and compiled a dual meet record of 227-62, including a mark of 135-11 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
  • His Hornets won 17 team championships and placed second seven times over the first 25 years that swimming was an MIAA sport. From 1972 through 1985, his teams were unbeaten in conference dual and championship meets.
  • Finalist for 1993 NCAA Division III national coach of the year honors and has produced 67 individual All-Americans
  • In 1985, assumed duties as athletic director and also serves as chairman of K’s physical education department.

Tony Kimbrough

  • Quarterbacked the Broncos to the 1988 California Raisin Bowl
  • Named MVP of the California Bowl
  • Threw for 366 yards and a pair of scores and rushed for 68 yards in the California Raisin Bowl against Fresno State.
  • The 1988 Vern Smith Award winner as the MVP of the Mid-American Conference
  • Kimbrough threw 19 touchdown strikes in 1988 to help WMU capture the MAC title with a 7-1 mark.
  • Ranks sixth at WMU in career total offense with 4,055 yards
  • Owns or shares program records for completion (32) and pass attempts (87) in a game
  • Played in the Canadian and Arena Football League

Bonni Kinne

  • One of WMU’s most outstanding female athletes … named to AIAW World Series All-Tournament team in 1980 … member of 1980 and 1981 SMAIW All-State teams … 1982 All-America First Team selection … 1984 All-MAC team (the All-MAC) team was started in 1983 in softball).
  • 19-6 record as a senior helped the Broncos in the MAC title and the program’s second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • Top vote-getter on the 1984 Academic All-American … current owner of several WMU career pitching records, including winning percentage (,793), wins (69), shutouts (48) and ERA (0.32) … also WMU leader in strikeouts in a game (19), strikeouts in a season (195) and strikeouts in a career (593) … compiled career with eight no-hitters and three perfect games.

  • Three-year competitive in three sports as an undergraduate. Has directed three programs to state prominence at Ottawa Lake Whiteford High School since 1974.
  • Had 21-year basketball record of 309-129, which included eight first and seven second player conference finishes, plus eight district titles. Recognized as state coach of the year as 1985 team was runner-up for title.
  •  Compiled a 16-year record of 347-95 in softball with eight conference championships and eight runners-up finishes. Two-time state and three-time regional coach of the year.
  • Had a six-year (1974-80) volleyball mark of 97-33 and guided 1976 and 1977 teams to state tournament semifinals.
  • Monroe County coach of the decade for the 1980s. Was county coach of the year three times for basketball and four times for softball.

  • Guided WMU to its second MAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003
  • Led Broncos to 2000 MAC West Championship and schools’ first ever WNIT appearance
  • Three-time First Team All-MAC
  • Ranks seventh in career scoring with 1,452 points and 13th career rebounds with 682

Jeff Kraft

  • Finished sixth in the pommel horse at Nationals in 1995, earning Third Team All-American
  • Held meet and season records in the pommel horse, breaking his own records three times over the course of his career
  • Ranked as high as second nationally in the pommel horse during his career

  • Still owns Western Michigan career record for pass interceptions (24) and punt returns (83), plus season interceptions (11) in 1939.
  • Led 1938 and 1939 teams in scoring with respective totals of 36 and 30 points. Scored first touchdown in history of Waldo Stadium (vs. Miami 1939).
  • Played professional baseball in Chicago White Sox farm system and coached basketball and baseball at Paw Paw High School.
  • Saw service with the U.S. Army as an infantry lieutenant in Europe during World War II and participated in five campaigns. Received a Bronze Star.
  • Sales representative with Kalamazoo’s Sutherland Paper Company, KVP Sutherland and Brown Company.

Joy Kroemer

  • Transferred from Lake Michigan College after her sophomore season where she won NJCAA National Championship
  • First team All-MAC selection in 1994 and 1995
  • Two-time First Team All-MAC
  • Played 113 games out of the total 114 in her two-year career at WMU
  • Career batting average of .303. Had a perfect stolen base percentage (14-14)
  • Had 60 hits in 1994, ranking top six in WMU history. Top 10 in WMU single-season history for RBI’s in a single-season (28)
  • Seven triples in 1994, ranked as third most in WMU single-season history
  • A part of the 1995 team that is top five in WMU history for wins in a season (34)
  • Two-time letterwinner

Betsey Kuhle

  • Has led WMU to nine MAC regular season crowns and three MAC Tournament titles
  • Became first MAC coach to qualify a team for the NCAA Tournament; Broncos have made three post-season appearances
  • Five-time MAC Coach of the Year recipient
  • Owned a career dual match record of 170-29 against MAC schools (.854 winning percentage), entering the 2006-07 campaign
  • WMU Tennis has sported a 98 percent graduation rate during Kuhle’s era
