TUSCON, Ariz. -- The Western Michigan softball team dropped its final three games at the University of Arizona's Candrea Classic, falling to Michigan State 9-1, 4-1 to Washington and 14-5 to No. 11 Alabama
It was a reversal of fortune on Saturday against the Spartans. After blanking MSU, 8-0, on Friday, Michigan State got the best of the Bronco's, hitting three home runs.
Payton Kelly scored WMU's lone run, a solo home run in the first.Â
Later in the afternoon the Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the Broncos after Alexis DeBoer hit a solo home run in the second inning and a two-run home run in the third inning. Jadyn Glab added the fourth run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Western Michigan got on the board in the seventh inning when
Micaela Booth reached on an error and
Haleigh Smith scored.Â
On Sunday morning, the 11th-ranked Crimson Tide put up two runs in the first but the Broncos battled back to take a 3-2 lead.
Tristen Head drove in
Payton Kelly with a single through the left side. Booth then reached on a fielder's choice as
Riley Dittmar crossed home plate.
Caitlin Tighe then singled through the right side to score Head.
Alabama responded with four runs in the top of the second to take a 7-3 lead before WMU cut it to 7-5 in the bottom of the third.

Jordan Smith then hit sacrifice fly to center field and Emily Yacaparo, who came on as a pinch runner, tagged up and scored. Alabama then added two more runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth.Â
Western Michigan heads down to Tennessee for the Skyhawk Invitational, hosted by UT Martin. WMU takes on Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET and then the hosts later in the afternoon at 4:30. On Saturday, Western Michigan takes on the Mastodons again, this time at 10 a.m., before playing Murray State at 4 p.m. WMU's trip is wrapped up on Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. game against DePaul.Â
