CLEVELAND -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team swept the weekly Mid-American Conference honors, with senior
Anton Arzhankin earning MAC Singles Player of the Week and Arzhankin and
Drew Evans claiming MAC Doubles Team of the Week.
Arzhankin and Evans went 2-0 in doubles play against Purdue and Illinois State. Against the Boilermakers they defeated Nour Fathalla and Stefan Simeunovic 6-1 at No. 2. Against ISU they earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 over Tom Bevan and Christian Capacci.
Arzhankin went 2-0 in singles over the weekend. He was responsible for WMU's lone point in its loss at Purdue, taking down the Boilermaker's No. 1 Aleksa Krivokapic 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4). At Illinois State he defeated the Redbirds' No. 1 Tomas Valencia 6-4, 6-1. Arzhankin is now 9-2 in singles this spring, all at No. 1.
The Broncos are back in action this Friday and Sunday at home. On Friday, the Broncos host Butler at 9 a.m. and Purdue Fort Wayne at 6 p.m. On Sunday, WMU welcomes Eastern Illinois at 9:30 a.m. and Wayne State at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
