TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis season came to an end on Friday as the Broncos fell to Miami, 4-2, in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals at the University of Toledo.
The RedHawks took the doubles point after a 6-3 win at No. 2 and a 6-4 win at No. 3. WMU's
Lindsey Zieglar and
Valeriya Monko had a 6-5 lead at No. 1 but the match went unfinished.
Miami pushed its lead to 2-0 when Emilia Valentinsson defeated
Polina Khotko 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Monko got the Broncos on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 to cut the lead to 2-1. Senior
Karin Hamilton then tied it up at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2.
Lauren Joyce gave the lead back to the RedHawks after a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6. Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek then secured the match win after downing Zieglar, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 and advanced Miami to Saturday's MAC Tournament Championship.
