KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan cross country team will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Nov. 15 at 11:00 AM. The meet is hosted by the Cleveland Sports Commission and will take place at Silver Creek Metro Park.
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos finished sixth at the MAC Championships back on Nov. 2, with
Lillian Zelasko earning All-MAC Second Team honors as an individual. Zelasko paced the team by finishing ninth.
Brooke Soper,
Grace Aurand,
Lauren Sancrant and
Lara Machado Pereira rounded out the scoring lineup for WMU.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT
Western Michigan finished 16th at last year's NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet, rising in the rankings throughout the race. The team was in 20th after 2K and 18th after 4K.
Danielle Rinn and
Kayla Schiera paced the team by finishing 36th and 56th, respectively. The top returning runners for the Brown and Gold are
Lauren Sancrant and
Brooke Soper.
Sancrant was the third Bronco to cross the finish line in last year's meet, while Soper rounded out the scoring lineup as the team's fifth runner. Sancrant had a time of 22:30.3 and Soper recorded a time of 23:04.8.
SUPER SOPER
Brooke Soper has taken her game to another level in her final season with the Broncos, helping WMU to a sixth-place finish at the MAC Championships. Soper has scored in each meet, being no lower than the team's third runner in each competition. She has produced PR's in both 5K and 6K competitions this season.
She had the best finish of her career at the MAC Championships back on Nov. 2, earning 38th place. She enters the regional meet with a 6K PR time of 21:48.4, which would've put her in the region's top 75 last season.
LILLY LEADS THE WAY
Lillian Zelasko has been terrific for the Broncos, being the team's first runner to cross the finish line in every meet she's competed in this season. She earned Second Team All-MAC honors a couple of weeks ago, making it three straight years with an All-MAC honoree for the Brown and Gold.
Zelasko enters the regional meet with a 6K PR time of 20:47.9, which would've made her the top MAC runner and a top-15 finisher at last year's meet.
