KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team welcomes the rest of the Mid-American Conference to Kalamazoo and West Hills Athletic Club for the 2024 MAC Indoor Qualifying Event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The new format for the tournament now has the winner of the top singles draw and the winner of the top doubles draw representing the MAC at the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Ga., Nov. 7-10.
WMU's
Anton Arzhankin and
Ashton Adesoro represent the Broncos in the Singles A Draw, the top draw of the tournament. Arzhankin has a bye to the quarterfinals and take on the winner of Ball State's Nathaniel Webster and UIC's Artem Alekseychuck. Adesoro has drawn Toledo's Hanamichi Carvajal in the opening round.
Arzhankin will also pair up with sophomore
Drew Evans in the top doubles flight. The pair open against Ball State's Ian Brady and Sanjin Smith and will play Toledo's Carvajal and Charlie Snow, who were awarded a bye.
Brogan Pierce and
Jack Davison are also in the Doubles A Draw and will go up against UT's Poonthong Komolpisut and Joshua Mackey.
Freshmen
Jack Davison and
Oscar Corwin will represent the Broncos in the Singles B Draw. Davison opens against NIU's Chiao Bo Sua Nan, while Corwin will play IUC's Simon Knezevic. In the Singles C Draw it will be sophomore
Matej Kajzer taking on the Huskies' Angus Howard. Sophomore
Dimitri Moriarty is in the Singles D Draw and plays Buffalo's Faiz Nasyam. Evans and
Adrian Quiros are slated for Singles E, with Evans pitted against the Flames' Youssef Mokhles and Quiros up against the Cardinals' Anthony Shalakov.
The Broncos will field three teams in the Doubles B Drae, with Adesoro and Solomon Dirnsun teaming up, Alexander Anonopoulos and Corwin as a pair, and Quiros and Kajzer as a team. Adesoro and Dunsirn have a bye in the first round, with the other two pairs competing in the first.
