Men's Tennis Turns in Strong Performances at the River Forrest Collegiate Invitational

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team opened its fall season on the clay courts of the River Forest Tennis Club at Northern Illinois' River Forest Collegiate Invitational over the weekend.

WMU saw success in both doubles and singles, but the finals of the singles draws went unfinished due to weather issues.

Senior Jackson Boone and freshman Drew Evans went 3-0 as a pair in the No. 2 Doubles Draw. The duo opened up with a 6-4 win over Cleveland State's Alves and Siercke. In the second round, they defeated Washington University's Fox and Henri Ohl, 6-2. In the championship match, they picked up a 6-4 win over Chiu and Dibildox.

In the No. 1 Doubles Draw the pair of senior Ferdinand Schlueter and freshman Matej Kajzer went 2-1 to claim third place. The freshmen pair of Ashton Adesoro and Drew Moriarty went 1-2.

Adesoro had the best weekend in singles, competing in the No. 2 Draw. He opened up with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) win over Pau Riera from Eastern Illinois. In the semifinals he won 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-6) against UIC's Randy Wilson.

Schlueter, Moriarty, Evans and Kajzer all went 1-1, with Boone dropping both of his matches.

The Broncos split up this weekend heading to the Milwaukee Classic and hosting the Vredevelt Invitational.
