DEKALB, Ill. – The Western Michigan wrapped up the 2022-23 regular season with a 4-3 win at Northern Illinois on Sunday.
The win pushed the Broncos (14-8, 5-5 MAC) to a tie for fourth in the Mid-American Conference standings. WMU is tied with Miami, but the RedHawks hold the tie-breaker and will advance to next week's MAC Tournament.
WMU picked up the doubles point after wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko defeated Erika Dimitriev and Nataly Ninova 6-2 to get the early advantage. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek then secured the point with a 6-3 win over Jenna Home and Isabella Righi.
Zieglar pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 3-0 win after Dimitriev retired. Kaitlyn Rogosch wrapped up her career with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Reagan Welch to give the Broncos a 3-0 advantage. NIU got on the board with a win by Ninova over MOnko 7-6, 6-2 at No. 3. Freshman Ariane Souligny clinched the victory after earning a 6-0, 6-3 win over Righi at No. 5.
