KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan softball team (3-2) is set to begin their second weekend of the 2023 season on Friday. The Broncos will participate in the Frost Classic hosted by Chattanooga.

Western Michigan enters the weekend with a 3-2 record after concluding its opening weekend at the Best on the Bayou Tournament in Monroe, Louisiana. The Broncos are led offensively by junior
Addison Hudson, who is batting .600 with six hits, including one RBI.
Courtney Farrish is batting .471 with eight hits, including four doubles and two home runs. She also adds a team-high four RBIs.
Alyssa Kramer adds to the leading offense, batting .400 with six hits, including two doubles and one home run for a total of three RBIs.

WMU opens the tournament on Friday morning at 10 am against UNLV. UNLV enters play 6-5 after winning four of five games last weekend while hosting the Desert Classic. Junior Jessie Fontes leads the UNLV pitching after collecting two victories and posting a 0.70 ERA over 10 innings. Offensively, senior Denise Armendariz batted .471 last weekend, scoring five runs and driving in five more, to lead the Rebels.
The Broncos will then play Eastern Illinois following their game against UNLV at 3 pm. The Panthers of Eastern Illinois enter the weekend 5-5 after opening the year with an 0-5 record at the Incarnate World Tournament during opening weekend, EIU rebounded to post a 5-0 record at the Mardi Gras Classic last weekend. Jaylen Prichard and Lindy Milkowski both hit over .460 for the tournament as EIU hit .333 as a team scoring 36 runs with 12 home runs.
Western Michigan will open Saturday Play at 10 am when they face SEMO. Southeast Missouri (2-3) claimed its first wins of the 2023 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Saint Louis. SEMO swept the Billikens, 10-9, in 10 innings during game one, and won the nightcap by a score of 7-4. Alyson Tucker leads the SEMO offense hitting .500, including seven hits, two doubles, and three RBIs.
WMU will take on the Tigers of Memphis at 12:30 after facing SEMO. The Memphis softball team enters the Frost Classic with a 2-8 record, coming off a 2-3 weekend. The Tigers recorded their first two wins of the season in the JU/UNF Invitational last weekend. Kendall Lee, Aliana Zavala, and Sam Ibison lead the team with a batting average of over .350 on the season. Kelsie Adams and Linsey Hargis lead the Tigers with three RBIs each.
Western Michigan will then wrap up play this weekend against the host, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Mocs are 4-2 with wins over James Madison, Marshall, Western Illinois, and Tennessee State. UT at Chattanooga has a batting average of .233 and a 2.70 pitching ERA. The Mocs are led by sophomore Jayce Purdy, batting .462 with six hits, two doubles, and one RBI.
