KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up the 2023 portion of its schedule, finishing off hosting the MAC Indoors on Sunday at West Hill Athletic Club.
Three Broncos had advanced to the singles finals in their flight, but
Anton Arzhankin,
Ashton Adesoro and
Dimitri Moriarty all fell in two sets to their opponents. Arzhankin dropped the Flight 1 title match to the reigning MAC Player of the Year, Pawit Sornlaksup of Toledo, 6-3, 6-1. Adesoro reached the Flight 3 title match, but fell 6-3, 6-3 to Northern Illinois' Iker Gaztambide Arrastia. Moriarty reached the Flight 5 title match but fell 6-4, 6-0 to Toledo's Charlie Snow.
Winning on the day was freshman
Drew Evans and senior
Benjamin George. George defeated UIC's Aleksa Bucan 6-3, 6-2 in the Flight 1 third place match. Davis picked up a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (13-11) over Buffalo's Michael Malkin in a Flight 6 consolation match.
The Broncos are off until Jan. 13, when they open 2024 with a dual match against Notre Dame at 11 a.m. and then IUPUI later at 6 p.m.
