KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan softball and head coach
Jenny Rohn have announced the addition of Northern Colorado transfer Haley Boxwell to the program. Boxwell becomes the first player to sign with the Broncos since Coach Rohn took over the reins late last month. Boxwell has two years of eligibility remaining and will suit up for WMU beginning with the 2023 season.
"I am so excited to welcome Haley into the Bronco softball family," Coach Rohn said. "Haley is not only a standout athlete, but also a standout person. She is very intentional and thoughtful with everything that she does, and her infectious energy fits the culture we are building. Haley's power and consistency will have an immediate impact in the lineup and defensively behind the plate. I cannot wait to have Haley on campus. Go Broncos!"
Haley Boxwell • 5-7 • OF/C • Scottsdale, Ariz. • Chaparral High School (University of Northern Colorado)
Boxwell arrives in Kalamazoo having spent each of her first three seasons playing at Northern Colorado. In her three years with the Bears, she did not commit a single error.
The 2022 season was her most productive yet, as she hit .394 and posted a .444 on-base percentage in 20 games, eight of which were starts. Boxwell tallied three doubles, scored four times and drove in a pair of runs to help UNC post its first winning record in conference play (10-8) since 2014, and its most overall victories (23) since 2012.
As a sophomore, the Scottsdale, Ariz., native featured in 12 games and started four for UNC. Boxwell registered a .300 on-base percentage and posted the first multi-hit game of her career, which included her first collegiate RBI, against Dixie State.
During her freshman season, which was cut short by COVID-19, Boxwell appeared in eight games, drawing two starts for the Bears. She collected the first hit of her collegiate career in a victory over St. John's and tallied her first run in a win over Omaha.
On choosing Western Michigan:
"I chose Western Michigan because it offers a place for me to both excel as a student-athlete and prepare myself beyond the classroom. Western Michigan softball has a history of high-achieving players, and I was drawn to the grit and passion embedded within the team. I am extremely excited to play under Coach Rohn and to be a part of the Bronco program!"
