Broncos Fall Just Short Against Falcons on Tuesday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan softball came up shy this afternoon while hosting the Bowling Green Falcons, falling by a final score of 4-2 at Ebert Field. The result moves the Broncos to 13-19 on the season, and 3-4 in MAC play.

The Falcons got on the board early, tallying a pair of runs in the top half of the contest's initial inning to take a 2-0 advantage. WMU would settle in defensively until three innings later, when BGSU added another 2 in the top frame of the fourth, stretching the lead to 4-0.

The Bronco bats picked up in the bottom half of that same inning, when junior infielder Alyssa Kramer sent a base knock back up the middle to give Western Michigan a baserunner with one away. Sophomore infielder Cassidy Brendtke stepped into the box next, and belted a two-run blast over the fence in left field to slice the Falcon lead in half, 4-2.

Brendtke's second homer of the season unfortunately proved to be all the offense the Broncos would conjure on Tuesday afternoon, unable to string together enough hits to trim the margin any more. Both teams would go scoreless in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, ending the ballgame in favor of Bowling Green.

On the afternoon, Cassidy Brendtke lead all Broncos at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run, a pair of runs batted in, and a run scored, bringing her to 15 RBI's and 12 runs scored on the season. Alyssa Kramer was next, going 1-3 with a hit number 21 on her year, while also coming across the plate to score for the 14th time this season.

Western Michigan and Bowling Green return to Ebert Field tomorrow to finish out the series, playing a doubleheader with a game one first pitch of 1 p.m., with game two to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.

Admission to all Bronco softball games is free to spectators, and concessions are available during the ballgame as well.
