WMU Drops Pair in Wednesday Doubleheader at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Western Michigan softball dropped a pair of games in this afternoon's doubleheader against the Ball State Cardinals, falling by 5-0 margins in each of the two contests from First Merchants Ballpark Complex. Today's results move the Broncos to 16-27 this season, and 6-11 against Mid-American Conference opponents.

Game one belonged to the Cardinals, as BSU got on the board in the bottom half of the third frame via a solo home run. Ball State would add another run in the fourth, and then tack on three more one inning later to seal the deal by a 5-0 final.

Junior infielders Alyssa Kramer and Courtney Farrish each went 1-3 in game one, with Farrish lacing a single down the left field line in the top of two, and Kramer doubling in the Bronco half of the fourth. Freshman Lauren Porter added a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning as well.

The second game of the day echoed the sentiments as the first, with Ball State again winning by a final tally of 5-0. The Cardinals got on the board in the fourth inning with a three-run homer, and added two more in their half of the sixth, again via the long ball to increase the advantage to five. BSU pitcher Angelina Russo retired every batter she faced this afternoon to seal the victory for her team.

The Broncos now look ahead to hosting Central Michigan this weekend at Ebert Field in Kalamazoo. The two teams will face off for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 with game one slated for a 1 p.m. start, and then meet again on Sunday for the series finale at 12 p.m.

Saturday will be Western Michigan Softball Alumni Day, recognizing the path created by previous Broncos. Any former WMU softball players able to come support this year's squad are welcome and encouraged to do so. Sunday's single game will be Senior Day, as we recognize and honor the time and sacrifice put in by this year's senior class throughout their careers at WMU.

Admission to all WMU home softball games is free to spectators, and each game will feature a live stream and scoring for those unable to make it. Join us for a great weekend of Bronco softball.
