KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak with a 7-0 sweep of Northern Illinois at Sorensen Courts on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos (11-9, 3-4 MAC) earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Lindsey Zieglar and
Karin Hamilton earned a 6-3 win over Iullia Dmitrieva and Paula Veyhle to give WMU the advantage.
Kaitlyn Rogosch and
Taylor Smith then secured the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 over Erika Dimitriev and Angelica Ross.
Rogosch then put Western Michigan up 2-0, with a quick win at No. 6 over Fernanda Naves. Rogosch won the first set 6-0 and then followed it up with a 6-3 win in the second. Zieglar erased a three-game deficit twice to win at No. 1 over Dimitriev 7-5, 7-5. Zieglar was down 4-1 in the first set and then 5-2 in the second before rallying. Senior
Femke Tjon-A-Joe clinched the match win after defeating Ross 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 4.
Kiana Rizzolo and
Ana Guadiana then earned three-set victories to complete the sweep.
The Broncos are back at home on Friday at 1 p.m. to host Ball State and then welcome Kalamazoo College on Saturday.
