KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team picked up its second Mid-American Conference win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Bowling Green on Friday morning at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos (10-7, 2-2 MAC) picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. BGSU took an early lead with a 6-1 win by Selina Karg and Hanna Neuman at No. 1 over
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and
Ana Guadiana. WMU responded with
Kaitlyn Rogosch and
Kristina Tiraspolsky defeating Annika Vetter and Maru Poppe 6-2 at No. 3.
Lindsey Zieglar and
Karin Hamilton sealed the point for Western Michigan with a win over Laura Maia Silveira and Ionna Tsadari, 6-4.
Ziegler extended the Broncos' lead to 2-0 starting off singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Karg at No. 1.
Kiana Rizzolo also made quick work of her opponent, defeating Silveira 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 to push the lead to 3-0. Rogosch secured the match win for WMU after defeating Neuman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 to make it 4-0 before Tsadari got the Falcons on the board with a 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 decision against Guadiana. Hamilton completed the come-from-behind three-set win at No. 3 over Vetter 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Tjona-A-Joe finished off the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) victory over Poppe at No. 4.
Western Michigan heads on the road to take on Toledo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
