DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team picked up its fifth straight win, downing Bethune-Cookman, 7-0, on the road on Tuesday morning.
The Broncos earned the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Ana Guadiana and Kiana Rizzolo defeated Afrika Smith and Diarra Thomas, 6-3, at No. 1, while Lindsey Zieglar and Kaitlyn Rogosch earned a win over Selene Kentish and Jourdon Cooper at No. 2, 6-0. Taylor Smith and Elizabeth Trupp earned a win via forfeit because BCU was unable to field a third team.
In singles competition the Broncos swept all six spots. Ziegler won at No. 1 6-2, 6-1 over Smith, while Guadiana won at No. 2 6-0, 6-0 over Thomas. Karin Hamilton defeated Kentish 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 and Maya Perkucin also picked up a win over Cooper 6-0, 6-0. Smith and Trupp were awarded wins by default due to no competitors at No. 5 and No. 6.
Western Michigan returns home to host Illinois-Chicago on Thursday, March 17 at 1 p.m. The Broncos then head on to Ball State to open Mid-American Conference play on March 20 at 1 p.m.
