ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Western Michigan softball suffered defeat this afternoon at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines (18-6, 0-0 Big Ten) by a final score of 9-1. The result moves the Broncos to 10-16 on the season, but does not affect their 2-1 MAC record.
Michigan struck first in the ballgame, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of inning number two. The Wolverines would score one run in each of the next two innings to move their advantage to 4-0 before WMU got themselves on the board in the top half of the sixth.
Senior outfielder
Maggie Kehoe reached base on a UM error when she pinch-hit for junior outfielder
Natalie Shuey, scoring senior infielder
Jordyn Swinehart and advancing sophomore
Taylor Garey. That run would wind up being the only tally for the Broncos, while Michigan put up five more in the bottom of the sixth to seal the deal in its favor.
Sophomore infielder
Cassidy Brendtke, as well as
Jordyn Swinehart and reigning MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week senior
Reily Galloway, all went 1-3, while freshman infielder
Lauren Porter notched one hit in two at bats on the afternoon. The Broncos left five runners on base in a contest that lasted two hours and one minute.
Tomorrow's contest against Valparaiso originally scheduled for 4 p.m. has been postponed due to weather concerns. The two teams are actively working on a reschedule date and time, which will be announced once a consensus is reached. As a result, the Broncos' next meeting will be with the Titans of Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, March 30. First pitch from Buysse Ballpark is scheduled for 3 p.m., and will be available for streaming via
ESPN+.
