SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Western Michigan softball team got RBIs from seniors
Jordyn Swinehart and
Reily Galloway, but were outlasted by host Notre Dame, 7-2, on a seasonably warm afternoon Wednesday.
Sophomore
Rissa Bajusz got the start in the circle, and allowed just two earned runs in three plus innings of work. Galloway tossed the final three frames and allowed one earned run and had a pair of strikeouts.
The Broncos trailed 3-0 after the fourth inning, but broke through in the top of the fifth. Bajusz opened the frame with a walk then stole second.
Darcy Barkauskas then reached on an error before
Madison Duell laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to second.
Natalie Shuey delivered an RBI-single to make it 3-1, and Swinehart had a sacrifice fly, scoring Barkauskas, to make it 3-2.
Notre Dame responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth, and three in the sixth to secure the game.
Up next, the Broncos begin Mid-American Conference play this weekend at home against Toledo. The series has been pushed back from its original schedule due to weather conflicts, and will now begin with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and wraps up with a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
