ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior
Reily Galloway tossed a complete game and allowed just four hits, as the Western Michigan softball team came away with a 6-2 victory in the 2022 season opener vs. Eastern Illinois at the DePaul Dome Tournament Thursday night.
The Broncos (1-0) broke open the scoring in the third inning when senior
Jordyn Swinehart drilled a single to right center, scoring
Taylor Wolfe and
Maggie Kehoe. Freshman
Darcy Barkauskas followed it up with a 2-RBI single to right field, driving in Swinehart and
Alyssa Kramer to put the Broncos ahead, 4-0.
Kramer then blasted a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to put WMU ahead 6-0. Eastern Illinois (0-1) scored two in the bottom of the frame, but it was not enough as WMU cruised to victory.
Galloway struck out seven batters, walked just one, and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Each of the top five Broncos in the lineup registered a hit, including the home run from Kramer at the leadoff spot, and Kehoe hit a double batting eighth.
The Broncos will take on Seattle and tournament host DePaul Friday afternoon and evening. Stay tuned to WMUbroncos.com, as well as @WMUsoftball on Twitter for updates and live statistics and results.
