KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A pair of Western Michigan softball seniors collected postseason accolades on Thursday, May 20.
Mackenzie Swinehart was named first team all-leaague by the Mid-American Conference, as well as third team all-region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Sydney Stefanick was selected second team All-MAC.
Swinehart capped her career as the program's all-time leader in games played (225). In her final campaign this year, she led the team and finished fifth in the MAC with a .393 batting average, while her .466 on-base percentage also led the team and slotted 10th in the league. She finished fifth in the MAC in runs scored (44), while also ranking second in total hits (66) and third in hit-by-pitches (nine). She recorded seven outfield assists on the year and committed just four errors, good for a .951 fielding percentage in centerfield. This was Swinehart's third All-MAC selection (second team and all-freshman team in 2017).Â
She is the first NFCA All-Region selection since Stefanick in 2019 and the 18th in school history.
Stefanick was a valuable two-way player for WMU this season. She finished second behind Swinehart in batting average (.326) while leading the team with 26 RBI. She also earned five victories and a save in the circle this season, striking out 55 batters. She also earned All-MAC honors in 2018 and 2019. Those accolades were not distributed in 2020, but Stefanick led WMU in both batting average and ERA when the season was disrupted 21-games in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Swinehart becomes WMU's first selection to the All-MAC First Team since Stefanick in 2019 and the 52nd first-team honoree in program history. Stefanick is the first WMU selection to the second team since
Kaylen Glenfield in 2019 and the 20th second-team selection overall.Â
