Kramer Homers As Softball Falls At Notre Dame

Sophomore drilled her third home run of the season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Alyssa Kramer homered as the Western Michigan softball team dropped a non-conference showdown at Notre Dame, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

Kramer hit her third home run of the season in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1, but the Irish used two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to pull away.

Rissa Bajusz and Jordyn Swinehart added hits for WMU. Reily Galloway took the loss, allowing five earned runs over four innings of work. Autumn Godwin threw 1.2 innings of relief work without allowing an earned run and Bajusz faced the final two batters, recording a strikeout.

Alexis Holloway got the win for Notre Dame. She allowed just the home run to Kramer in four innings of work. She was also 3-for-3 batting with two RBI.

Notre Dame jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Katie Marino singled home Emma Clark. The Broncos responded two pitches into the second when Kramer homered to tie the game.

Neither team managed to score again until the bottom of the fourth when Holloway helped herself with a solo home run to left, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead. The Irish plated another run in the fourth on an RBI single by Abby Sweet before Galloway induced a groundout to end the inning.

Notre Dame struck again in the fifth. Payton Tidd doubled home a run before Holloway laid down a bunt single to score another run. Sarah Genz scored a pair with a two-run double to deep center to push the Irish lead to 7-1. Clark scored another run with an RBI single making it 8-1 after five.

Neither team scored the rest of the way and 8-1 would prove to be the final score.
