KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell in its final home match of the season, 4-3, against Toledo on Friday afternoon.
The Broncos had a 3-1 lead in the match but the Rockets earned points in No. 4, No. 5 and No. 3 singles down the stretch to complete the comeback.
Western Michigan earned the doubles point, going 2-1. Cassie Alcala and Sloane Teske put UT up 1-0 after a win at No. 1 but the Broncos stormed back with wins by
Lindsey Zieglar and
Karin Hamilton, 6-3, at No. 2 and Anna Guadiana and
Kaitlyn Rogosch, 6-3, at No. 3.
Toledo tied to score at 1-1 with a win by Alcala at No. 1 singles over
Femke Tjon-A-Joe 6-0, 6-4. Western Michigan retook the lead after Ziegler defeated Teske at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. The lead expanded to 3-1 after freshman
Maya Perkucin won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3, over Ava McQuillin. The final three points for UT were all decided in three sets. Patricia Panta defeated Rogosch to cut the lead down to 3-2 at No. 4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Shalini Tallamraju tied the match at 3-3 with a win at No. 5, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, over
Karin Hamilton and Julia Kuszynski clinched the match for the Rockets with a win at No. 3 over Guadiana, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Western Michigan closes out the season on Sunday at Northern Illinois.
