Men's Tennis Signs Derek Distelrath for 2022-23 Season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis program and head coach Dave Morin have announced the signing of Derek Distelrath to a National Letter of Intent on Friday.

Distelrath joins the Broncos from St. Clair, Mich., where he starred for St. Claire High School.

"Derek fits the profile of our incoming recruits," said Morin. "He's passionate about tennis and he's an outstanding student. Derek is as good of an athlete as we've had in our program and has very good leadership skills as well. The last two years of COVID has limited his ability to play tournaments, but I see his game really developing once he's training with high-level players on a consistent basis and we're super excited to have him joining us next year."

Distelrath is ranked 281 in HEAD's recruiting rankings nationally, also coming in at 32 in the Great Lakes region and seven in Michigan. He has twice competed in the MHSAA State Championships, reaching the finals twice and the quarterfinals all four years of his high school career.
